Deion Sanders' Son, CU Buffs Football Star, Makes College Football History

Buffs DB Gage Sanders Records Program's First Pick Six Since 2019

Former pro wrestler and NFL star Deion Sanders' son, Gage Sanders, made college football history on Saturday, becoming the first Colorado Buffaloes player to record a pick six since 2019.

Sanders' interception and 21-yard return for a touchdown came in the second quarter of the Buffs' 38-13 win over the California Golden Bears. It was the first pick six for Colorado since Mekhi Blackmon's 42-yard return against Washington on November 2, 2019.

Sanders' Pick Six Highlights Buffs' Defensive Dominance

Sanders' pick six was one of three interceptions by the Buffs defense on Saturday, which also forced two fumbles and held Cal to just 263 total yards of offense. The Buffs' defense has now forced at least one turnover in each of their first three games this season.

Sanders, a redshirt freshman, has been a bright spot for the Buffs defense this season, starting all three games at cornerback and recording 11 tackles, two interceptions, and a pass breakup.

The Buffs are now 2-1 on the season and will host the Arizona Wildcats next Saturday.

Deion Sanders Proud of Son's Accomplishment

Deion Sanders, who is now the head coach at Jackson State University, took to Twitter to congratulate his son on his historic achievement.

"I'm so proud of my son, Gage, for making history at Colorado," Sanders tweeted. "He's worked incredibly hard to get to this point, and I'm excited to see what the future holds for him."

Gage Sanders Following in His Father's Footsteps

Gage Sanders is following in the footsteps of his famous father, who was a standout defensive back in the NFL for 14 seasons.

Deion Sanders was a two-time Super Bowl champion and eight-time Pro Bowler during his playing career. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.

Gage Sanders has the potential to be a great player in his own right, and he is off to a great start to his college career.
